About GVEA

GVEA is an electric cooperative that maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and nine generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska‑Fairbanks, and all electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Your day to day as a Mechanic As a Mechanic at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of all power‑plant mechanical equipment. Your responsibilities will include preventive and corrective maintenance for turbine generators, boilers, fans, pumps, heat exchangers, conveyors, compressors, and more. You will use your troubleshooting skills to identify root causes of failures and propose effective solutions, collaborating with outside contractors to meet quality, scheduling, and cost targets. Additionally, you will train Plant Technicians on mechanical maintenance, sharing your expertise to elevate the team's capabilities. In the course of capital projects, you may also engage in equipment modification, fabrication, and installation. This position may require call‑in for emergency maintenance during off‑hours to ensure the continuous operation of our vital services.

Does this sound like you? To excel in this role, candidates must possess:

A high school diploma or equivalent.

Welding certification is preferred; you will be required to pass a welding test.

Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical equipment and understanding plant operations.

Strong communication skills for effective interaction with outside contractors and training of Plant Technicians.

A valid Alaska driver’s license.

Familiarity with mechanical tools and related software.

A proactive approach and commitment to safety.

Assigned PQC‑Passed Qualification and 2,000 hours as a Mechanic (Entry).
