Job Summary The Tank Fitter Welder uses hand welding, flame cutting, hand soldering, or brazing equipment to weld, repair or join metal plate or structural components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products to build and fabricate storage tanks.

Essential Functions

Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions

Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits

Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment

Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Knowledge of arithmetic

Operate welding machines

Lay out, fit and weld fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and within all heavy construction

Knowledge of welding and metallurgy (SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW)

Weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products

Perform daily maintenance and safety checks

Generate and maintain accurate job aid for duties assigned

Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture

Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Education And Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required

At least 3 years’ experience as a Welder

Ability to pass a weld test (stick, tig, sub-arc, fluxcore, or mig)

Working on API Storage Tanks; new construction & repair

Skills / Key Competencies

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings

Math/Amps, Volt ranges

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information

Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities

Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented

Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines

Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary

Ability and willingness to travel as required

Physical Requirements

Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas

Working at heights and tight spaces

Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another

Ability to operate job related tools

Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers

Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
