Job Title: Fitter/Fabricator
Position is located in Charleston, South Carolina
Compensation: $34-$37.50 an hour
Per diem: $140 in daily per diem
Job Description: You will be responsible for the prefabrication for parts that will later be installed on aircraft carriers and submarines. The position involves laying out, fitting, aligning, and assembling prefabricated cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations. The role requires performing fitting and machining operations such as straightening, grinding, burring, drilling, reaming, and countersinking materials to close tolerances. The successful candidate will select equipment and set up materials following general instructions, and may repair or rework parts to restore required tolerances that have been distorted due to welding operations.
Responsibilities
Lay out, fit, align, and assemble prefabricated cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations.
Perform fitting and machining operations such as straightening, grinding, burring, drilling, reaming, and countersinking materials to close tolerances.
Select equipment and set up materials following general instructions.
Repair or rework parts to restore required tolerances that have become distorted due to welding operations.
Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in reading blueprints.
Strong measurement skills.
Experience with drilling, tapping, brazing, and grinding.
Ability to lay out, fit, align, and assemble components.
Experience with shipyard fabrication.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, VA.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.08 – $44.18/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
