Overview
The Scope Processing Technician II plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes and related equipment used in medical procedures. The Scope Processing Technician II follows strict protocols to prevent infections and maintain high standards of patient care. Responsibilities
Decontaminate all Endoscopes & Probes according to manufacturer’s guidelines (IFU). Ensure all equipment is covered properly prior to transfer to/from the reprocessing area. Reprocess Endoscopes utilizing Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) units. Perform Chemical Monitoring of the GUS System as per High-Level Disinfectant (HLD) IFU. Maintain cleanliness, restock, and organization of the department throughout the shift. Attend in-service and department meetings. Assist and educate new staff on Endoscopy equipment. Apply proper technique for donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure mandatory use. Complete annual skills/competency per hospital policy/procedure. Maintain accurate documentation. Communicate effectively in a professional manner. Engage in ongoing professional growth regarding equipment trends and high-level disinfection methods through continuing education. Participate in department Performance Improvement projects. Support continuous customer satisfaction through hospital-wide service excellence standards. Comply with all Joint Commission and Hospital standards related to the department. Travel to other scope processing departments/areas as needed to meet organizational needs. On-call/standby as required. Update/provide inventory reports to department and/or stakeholders. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. 2-3 years of experience in an OR/SPD/GI environment. Knowledge of handling and cleaning of medical equipment and related support supplies for patient care. Preferred Qualifications
Specialized/technical training; graduate of a state approved accredited school of Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing Technician preferred. 2 years of endoscopic scope processing experience preferred. Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD) preferred. Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred. Required Licenses/Certifications
Sterile Processing Certification current through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD). Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days and renewed as required (LA City only). The hourly rate range for this position is $26.39 - $44.88. USC considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, work experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, laws, contractual stipulations, funding, and market conditions when extending offers.
