Position Summary This position is an intense educational experience involving online, classroom, and hands‑on practical experiences over the course of 11 months with opportunities in both MI and IN. The program begins with basic technical knowledge and introduction to equipment systems, technician computer usage, and safety in the workplace. It concludes with classes in welding, failure analysis, and advanced troubleshooting. Throughout the program, participants focus on equipment systems such as electrical, hydraulics, engines, powertrains, and fuel systems.
Position Duties / Responsibilities
Participate in classroom, lab and hands‑on shop training aligned with MacAllister’s technical and safety standards
Learn foundational systems including hydraulics, engines and ignition, powertrain, fuel, and braking
Complete written and practical assessments to determine knowledge and skill development
Work alongside experienced technicians and mentors to reinforce classroom concepts
Meet expectations for safety, quality, and attendance throughout the program
Maintain tools and equipment, adhering to cleanliness and organization standards in the shop and lab spaces
Attend career development classes focusing on communication, teamwork and long‑term career planning
Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
High school diploma or GED
Pass mechanical aptitude and reading comprehension assessments
Reliable transportation to/from assigned branch to classroom learning location(s)
Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift during the training period
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to build and maintain effective customer and professional relationships through strong interpersonal skills
Skills in complex problem solving, critical thinking, and creative thinking
Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening skills
Good leadership skills, including decision‑making and goal‑setting skills
Good project management skills and the ability to manage change and conflict
Detail‑oriented and a team player
Moderate computer skills including the ability to utilize industry software and systems
Other Requirements Of Position
Works under limited supervision; independently determines the approach to take and the methods to use
Interprets policy in terms of objectives; informs manager of unusual situations with far‑reaching implications
Major responsibilities typically require a modest amount of creativity and latitude
Frequently communicates with coworkers; regularly with management, Caterpillar representatives and Dealer Solution Network representative
