Job Purpose
Mechanical assembly of locomotive, locomotive components, maintenance of way equipment (MoW), railcars and components, track and track component to include signaling based on AAR standards, customer specifications and company guidelines.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with PRS safety policies
Perform teardown repair, replacement, rebuild and reassembly of mechanical components
Parts cleaning for small and large motor parts
Conduct daily inspections and operate overhead cranes and forklifts
Use basic air tools, die grinder, drill, etc
Route and connect hydraulic plumbing
Basic wiring and electrical assembly
Light fabrication and parts alterations
Operate saws, lathes, drills and other types of machinery
Operate Forklifts, overhead cranes and other equipment as necessary
Read and follow QWI and other work instructions necessary to properly assembly product
Advanced duties and responsibilities
Train other employees
Troubleshoot, inspect and run equipment
Read schematics, engineering drawings and sketches
Use precision instruments and gauges
Operator is well versed in multiple facets of production roles
Operator will have high level experience in testing, troubleshooting, repairing and replacing components
Can operate high level machinery proficiently with little assistance
Qualifications, Experience, Education
Specific site qualifications and progression may apply, consult with local team
Skill Level I – 0-1 years of experience
Skill Level II – 2-3 years of experience or Technical Certifications with other mechanical experience
Skill Level III – 4-5 years of experience, Technical or specific experience
Skill Level IV - 5+ years of experience, Considered Master Mechanic

Essential and Physical Activities Functions
Strength – Position requires lifting of 50lbs. Requires stamina and strength to work in tight and confined spaces while repairing locomotive or locomotive components
Motion – Position requires standing the majority of the day. Frequent walking, squatting, kneeling and climbing of steps and stairs
Vision/Hearing Requirements – Position is exposed to high levels of noise and vibration from using tools. Position is exposed to cutting torches and welding operations. The use of proper PPE is required. The Position requires the ability to read QWI and schematics and understand instructions
Work Environment – Position can be located inside or outside, dependent on situation. When inside, the employees are subject to temperature extremes in non-temperature-controlled environments. When outside employees are subject to all weather elements. In both cases employees will work with oils and other lubricants
Emotional Demands – Employee is expected to work and cooperate as part of team in order to meet production requirements
Safety – Position is safety sensitive as it requires working in and around live tracks and operation and repair of heavy equipment. Position requires strict adherence to safety policies (i.e blue flag) and use of all PPE
