Machine Maintenance Technician (Critical Lift & Transport) Cape Canaveral, FL

SpaceX is seeking a skilled Machine Maintenance Technician to join our Critical Lift & Transport team at our launch sites. In this role, you will inspect, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot specialized machinery and equipment used in the safe and efficient handling, lifting, and transportation of flight hardware and critical ground hardware. You will work cooperatively with technicians, specialists, and engineers to minimize downtime and support SpaceX’s ambitious space‑exploration goals.

Responsibilities

Perform repair and preventative maintenance tasks on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for diverse transport and lift equipment (trucks, trailers, SPMTs, cranes, shipping fixtures, ground support equipment).

Diagnose and repair operational issues in the field.

Read and interpret technical schematics and documentation across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic disciplines.

Use mechanical hand and machine tools without instruction.

Fabricate and/or source spare parts, tools, and materials for repairs and upgrades while adhering to cost‑control measures.

Collaborate with a team of technicians, engineers, and management to complete maintenance in support of reliable and safe transport and lift operations.

Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in detail using a digital tracking system (e.g., Computerized Maintenance Management System, CMMS).

Continuously improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and provide feedback to streamline work processes.

Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency certificate.

3+ years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, fluids, and/or control systems.

Preferred Skills & Experience

5+ years as a maintenance or field service technician, focusing on heavy lift and transport equipment.

Experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex fluid, electrical, and mechanical systems.

Strong understanding of diesel mechanics and internal combustion engines.

Proficiency reading mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics, drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.

Proficiency with calibrated measurement devices (load cells, multimeters, calipers, torque wrenches, depth gauges, micrometers).

Proficiency using power tools and hand tools, as well as heavy equipment (forklift, telescopic, overhead crane).

Commitment to a safe and clean working environment while adhering to company, quality, and industry standards.

Basic computer and report‑writing skills (MS Office).

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Strong prioritization and time‑management skills.

Detail‑oriented, organized, and dedicated to urgency.

Analytical thinking to root cause problems and devise permanent solutions.

Ability to work under deadlines in a high‑paced, dynamic environment.

Additional Requirements

Ability to pass an Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral Space Force Base.

Ability to work the following shift, overtime, and weekends as needed:

Monday – Friday 6:00am – 4:30pm

Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and perform tasks involving lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.

Typical exposure to extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain, ice.

Exposure to fumes, odors, and noise.

Willingness to work extended hours, including overtime and weekends, to support critical operations.
