This job assumes responsibility for and follows blueprints, color charts and/or schematics of design using the correct tools of the trade to complete carpentry and cabinet making assignments. Performs general maintenance duties and assists others in mechanical and carpentry‑related duties. Builds and repairs wooden fixtures used in buildings and uses woodworking machines, carpenters’ hand tools and power tools to complete the job.
Supports Bayou Region: Chabert, St. Anne & St. Mary Ochsner Facilities.
Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.
Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience Required: 2 years’ experience installing materials to walls, including pre‑hung doors, cabinets, etc., as specified by the manufacturer, or related experience, or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Strong time‑management skills and self‑directed.
Knowledge and experience in all phases of construction.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of the different kinds of woods, laminates, glues, and adhesives used for wood working.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to work effectively under stress.
Read, write, draw, measure, and interpret blueprints and drawings.
Ability to use the correct tools to accomplish the job.
Must be able to work with minimal or no supervision.
Job Duties
Performs general construction repairs, including but not limited to demolition and installation.
Completes Preventive Maintenance inspections.
Investigates all maintenance requests, using initiative and judgment when completing tasks.
Assists co‑workers, follows up on completed tasks, and performs other duties as assigned.
Properly cares for and uses tools of the trade.
In the event of severe weather emergencies or disaster, personnel will be assigned a work area and remain onsite throughout the duration.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
