Job Summary:

Sets up and operates powered machinery to bend, form, stretch, notch, punch, or straighten metals and structural shapes as specified by work orders, blueprints, drawings, or layouts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sets stops on machine bed, changes dies, and adjusts components, such as ram or power press, when making multiple or successive passes.

Operates power press, power brake, foot‑powered press, hydraulic press, batwing, or similar machinery to bend, form, notch, stretch, punch or straighten metals.

Selects and positions flat, block, radius, or special‑purpose die sets into the ram and bed of the machine, using hoist, crane, measuring instruments, and hand tools.

Installs, aligns, and secures gears, hole fixtures, dies to machine bed, using gauges, and/or templates, and hand tools.

Measures workpiece and verifies dimensions and weight, using micrometer, template, straightedge, and scale.

NON ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspects work pieces for defects.

Lifts, positions, and secures work pieces between dies of machine using crane.

Lubricates work pieces with oil.

Grinds out burrs and sharp edges, using portable grinder, speed lathe and polishing jack.

Hand‑forms, cuts, or finishes work pieces using proper tools.

Qualifications Qualifications and Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Minimum 2 years previous experience as a machine operator or related experience required.

Must be able to accurately read detailed part and assembly blueprints.

Ability to apply basic math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to communicate verbally in one‑on‑one situations with management and co‑workers; listen to others without interrupting and get clarification when needed.

Ability to safely and properly use gauges, calipers, and other tools and equipment.

Ability to identify proper materials and supplies according to specifications.

Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.

Exhibits dependability, including following instructions; responding to supervisor’s direction; and taking responsibility for own actions.

Ability to take initiative, including asking for and offering help when needed; performs work independently without being prompted.

Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and work within deadlines.
