Position Summary Under the direction of the Project Manager, Project Engineer, or Field Manager, function as the crew leader for field investigation services in sanitary, storm water, combined sewer and water distribution systems. Provide sub-contractor observation and supervise sub-consultant personnel.
Position Responsibilities
Following confined space entry requirements, perform inspections of structures and pipeline assets visually or with approved camera equipment
Install, maintain and service sewer flow monitoring equipment
Conduct field investigation services, such as smoke testing, dye water flooding, flow isolation and water leak detection in accordance with RJN Standard Operating Procedures
Ensure work is performed within established safety guidelines including RJN policies, OSHA and other pertinent regulations
Submit monthly vehicle mileage logs, maintenance reports and equipment inventory lists
Ensure scheduled daily work is completed and that established production and quality goals are met
Ensure timely submittal of daily paperwork and field documentation and that these records are accurate, organized according to company and project standards and transferred to designated locations
Maintain vehicle and equipment to ensure safety, mechanical soundness and productivity. Ensure organization of vehicle, correct safety and production equipment inventory is on hand and that proper maintenance of equipment and van has occurred
Interact with clients and general public in a professional manner
Responsible for field crew adherence to all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the latest version of the RJN Group, Inc. Safety Manual
Coordinate the activities of one or more field technicians in the field; observation and supervision of sub-contractor field labor
Advanced knowledge of and ability to effectively use electronic data recording equipment, including hand‑held data collectors and GPS collection devices
Perform troubleshooting and minor repair of field inspection equipment
Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned
Perform calculations, analysis and problem solving as requested
Travel and work overtime as required
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED certificate from an accredited institution
At least 1 year of experience within the wastewater, stormwater industry, etc.
Previous experience within at least 1 field investigation service
Valid driver’s license
Mechanical skills- as you will be utilizing hand and power tools
Basic computer skills
Proficiency with smartphones and tablets (iPads, etc.)
Physical and cognitive abilities to perform confined space entry
Ability to read and interpret sewer and road maps
Preferred Skills & Experience
Previous experience working within confined space entry
Experience working within a customer centric role
Confined Space Entry certification
NASSCO PACP/MACP Certification
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.)
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; squat or crouch in a confined space; climb ladders or steps; work with arms above head; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and tolerate working in heat or cold weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. The noise level in the field environment is usually moderate. Employee may be required to be in a confined space for an extended length of time.
Personal Protective Equipment: None required in office. If working in field, must wear steel‑toe boots, Class 2 or Class 3 safety vest, and high visibility T‑shirt. Other PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hat and other standard equipment used as needed.
