Engineering Technician – Distribution

Welty Energy is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission and substation engineering, and construction oversight on projects ranging from 4 kV to 765 kV. Headquartered in Akron, OH, we manage approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities across the Midwest and Northeast.
This remote position requires 10‑15% travel to client sites and applicants must be based in the US.
Responsibilities
Provide design and CAD services on client projects.
Represent the client and deliver best-in‑class service.
Consult on select projects where expertise and guidance is requested.
Assist the Welty Project Management Team as needed.
Prepare designs using client standards, including single line diagrams, AC & DC schematics, physical designs, SCADA designs, and wiring diagrams.
Verify projects follow all applicable client standards.
Utilize client software to manage drawings checked out by Welty.
Perform site visits when necessary.
Consult on internal projects requested by PM, Portfolio Manager, or Executive Vice President.
Perform quality checks to ensure project quality and completion before submission.
Conduct electrical calculations (load ratings, transformer sizing, etc.).
Act as main contact for team questions and technical issues.
Train new hires on software, engineering/construction processes, and equipment.
Qualifications

Experience coordinating and facilitating project‑review meetings.
Ability to share knowledge and train on‑coming Engineering Technicians.
Establish trust and rapport with client and contract engineer firms.
Collaborate with management to foster a productive environment.
Submit timesheet entries and expenses weekly, applied to corresponding projects.
Associate’s degree in drafting or equivalent technical program.
3+ years of experience designing utility distribution.
