About UTEP and Facilities Management The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a reputable higher education institution with a rich history and distinctive architecture. Facilities Management, led by Assistant Vice President Stanley Joshua, oversees Facilities Services, Planning and Construction, and Space Management. Together, the team maintains, repairs, renovates, and cleans over 5.21 million square feet across 80 structures on 421 acres.

Position Information

Hours:

40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 7:00 am‑3:30 pm, with flexibility required on evenings and weekends.

FLSA status:

Non‑exempt

Earliest Start Date:

As soon as possible.

Salary:

$25,000 annually.

Purpose of Position Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building codes.

Essential Functions

Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine material types and dimensions.

Selects specified lumber or other materials, prepares layout, marks cutting and assembly lines, shapes materials to prescribed measurements, and assembles cut and shaped materials, fastening them with nails, dowel pins, or glue; verifies trueness with plumb bob and carpenter's level.

Builds and erects wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, temporary or permanent frame shelters; builds and installs ladders, stairs, walkways, and platforms.

Lays sub‑flooring and covers it with building paper to keep out moisture; installs hardwood, parquet, wood‑strip blocks, brick, ceramic tile, and carpet by nailing to sub‑floor or cementing to mastic or asphalt base.

Applies shock‑absorbing, sound‑deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.

Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, drywall, ceiling framing grid and tiles, and finish hardware such as locks and kick plates.

Nails plaster grounds (wood or metal strips) to studs for plastering; plasters metal and wood studs.

Performs other routine duties.

Must be available on an “On Call” basis.

Overtime may be required.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and ability to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience:

Two years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Occasional travel to off‑campus UTEP sites.

License:

Valid, state‑issued driver’s license required.
