Position Summary The Building Automation Technician is responsible for executing field installation verification, point-to-point checkout, controller programming deployment, and on-site coordination of subcontracting crews for commercial building automation projects. This role serves as the primary field technical lead, ensuring systems are installed, programmed, and tested in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards. The technician provides regular progress updates to the assigned Project Manager and supports system readiness for commissioning and turnover.
Technical Execution
Perform point-to-point checkout of building automation systems, including sensors, actuators, controllers, and network devices.
Verify installed field devices against approved submittals, drawings, and sequences of operation.
Download, deploy, and validate controller and supervisory-level programs.
Troubleshoot hardware, wiring, communication, and programming issues to resolution.
Support system startup, functional testing, and commissioning activities.
Field Leadership & Subcontractor Coordination
Direct and oversee subcontracting crews on site.
Coordinate daily work activities to ensure adherence to project scope, safety requirements, and schedule.
Confirm work quality and completeness prior to inspection or checkout.
Identify installation deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions.
Project Coordination & Reporting
Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager.
Document checkout status, deficiencies, and resolutions using company-standard reporting tools.
Assist with schedule planning by identifying constraints, material needs, or manpower impacts.
Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams and subcontractors.
Documentation & Closeout Support
Complete checkout reports, testing documentation, and as-built markups.
Support preparation of commissioning and turnover documentation.
Assist with training support and punch-list resolution as needed.
Requirements Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in Building Automation / Controls field execution.
Strong working knowledge of BAS hardware, field devices, and control networks.
Experience performing point-to-point checkout and system startup.
Ability to lead subcontractor field crews effectively.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, submittals, and specifications.
Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with major BAS platforms.
Commissioning or functional performance testing experience.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Experience on large commercial construction projects.
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to work on active construction sites.
Ability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.
Willingness to travel to job sites as required.
