Job Description Altec is seeking a field‑based Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy and specialized equipment critical to national infrastructure. The role involves on‑site troubleshooting, component replacement, and customer interaction across the U.S. and Canada.
Ideal Background
Experience with heavy equipment (excavators, skid steers, dozers, tractors, cranes, aerial devices, digger derricks, chippers, military vehicles, GSE)
Previous work as a mechanic or technician focused on heavy equipment
Education or training in mechanics, electrical, hydraulic, or related systems
Responsibilities
Replace electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components on equipment
Utilize operator, parts, and maintenance manuals and HowFactory to troubleshoot and identify needed parts
Perform unit condition inspections and generate reports
Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area
Adhere to Altec safety practices and procedures in all tasks
Advise supervisors on situations that may impact customer relationships
Provide accurate documentation on all required forms
Demonstrate Altec company values in daily work
Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
High school diploma, GED, or state‑approved equivalency
Strong interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills
Physical ability to move objects up to 75 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling
High dexterity and hand‑tool proficiency
Valid driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
Availability to work overtime as needed
Safety advocacy and commitment to workplace safety
