At IPS, we prioritize safety, growth, and continuous improvement. As an In‑Shop Technician, your daily work will be hands‑on, impactful, and critical to keeping equipment running.
Responsibilities and Expectations
Train and supervise qualified employees in advanced electrical skills and maintenance practices.
Read job cards to determine status, authorizations, and expected serviceability.
Inspect, diagnose, and correct malfunctions in motors, pumps, hydraulic equipment, compressors, controls, valves, and related equipment.
Perform routine, preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, generators, gearboxes, blowers, and compressors.
Conduct root cause analysis on repetitive and catastrophic equipment failures.
Disassemble equipment, record parts identification, configuration, and condition; document required repairs and labor time.
Repair, rebuild, and weld, braze, solder, or coat wires for proper insulation on electric motors and generators.
Operate manual machining tools – engine lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drilling machines.
Safely use overhead, gantry cranes, and left trucks for lift rigging.
Perform mechanical measurements with portable instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, and vibration equipment.
Qualifications and Competencies
3+ years of experience as a machinist for electric motor repair preferred.
Ability to read micrometers and operate manual lathes of various sizes.
Knowledge of three‑phase AC induction motors, including inverter duty applications.
Basic math proficiency: algebra, geometry, and calculation of discounts, percentages, areas, and volumes.
Skilled in reading sketches, blueprints, control diagrams, ladder logic, and technical documents.
Understanding of job‑related training, operational safety procedures, and overtime work.
