CONSTRUCTION WORKER II (Water Services)

Job Summary
This position performs difficult skilled work in construction, repair, and maintenance of the water and sewer system.
Responsibilities
Assist in installation, repairs and maintenance to City's Water and Sewer System.
Assist in the installation of fire hydrants, water and sewer taps, meter boxes, etc.
Assist in daily preparation and restoration of construction sites.
Repair broken or damaged water or sewer mains.
Assist Crew Supervisor in daily assignments.
Operate various construction tools and equipment as needed; install barricades and other traffic control devices.
Follow safety guidelines.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Will be on call for after‑hour emergencies for a 7‑day 24‑hour standby rotation every fourth week.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
One to two years of experience in a similar position or completion of an apprenticeship/internship related to the major duties of the role.
Current and valid driver's license with an active 3‑year verifiable driving history; must be able to obtain an N.C. CDL Class B license within 6 months of hire.
Previous experience in maintenance and construction of water and sewer utilities.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
Knowledge of city geography.
Knowledge of safety standards.
Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
Skill in repair and maintenance of hand and power tools.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Physical Demands
Light work requiring up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Repetitive motion, sitting, standing, and walking.
Substantial movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Work Environment
Typically performed outdoors.
Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and occasional cold or inclement weather.
Use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
