Scalehouse Operator
Thurston County Public Works Department is recruiting for a Scalehouse Operator to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Solid Waste team. The successful candidate will assist customers and collect fees at Thurston County Solid Waste facilities located in Lacey, Rainier and Rochester. Salary range: $3,658.00 - $4,866.00 monthly.
Responsibilities
Measures loads of refuse for cubic yardage to determine cost; determines categories for loads.
Collects fees explaining the rate structure, issues receipts.
Answers phone calls from public for information on dumping.
Logs daily and weekly receipt sheet; deposits cash receipts daily.
Performs custodial maintenance of facilities daily.
Working Conditions
Work Environment - Will work outside, inside and in a small kiosk.
Schedule - Varies. Weekend and holiday work will be required.
Travel Requirements - Travel to other Solid Waste sites will be required.
Customer Interactions - Daily interactions in-person with the public and Thurston County staff.
Qualifications
One year work experience requiring public contact and cashiering duties.
High School Diploma or GED.
Current Washington State Driver's License.
Desired Skills
Cash handling experience.
Work experience using personal computers and computer software.
Experience working as a scale operator.
Experience working at a solid waste landfill, transfer station, or drop-box facility.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work with diverse audiences using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Demonstrated proficiency in keyboarding and ten-key data entry.
