Responsibilities
Participates in the continuous improvement process by making suggestions to Supervisors and Leads.
Individual must perform to Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Procedures to maintain material flow to internal and external customers.
Recognizes and controls the hazards associated with the work and properly responds to unexpected safety and/or environmental situations.
Recognizes materials and break downs to accurately determine the cause and take appropriate corrective action.
Plans and inspects work.
Safely performs specified preventative and/or repair maintenance tasks on equipment.
Recommends improvements in operating processes, procedures, and equipment, and seeks to eliminate waste.
Keeps assigned equipment and work area clean and free of hazards.
Keeps lead operator and/or supervisor informed of needed supplies, repairs, or service.
Reports operating irregularities/malfunctions which are beyond the control of the operator to resolve.
Works with Maintenance and Electrical departments on projects to reduce equipment downtime.
Handles and disposes of solid and liquid wastes in compliance with established procedures.
Performs pipefitting, rigging, and minor sheet metal fabrication and repairs.
Follows PPE and 5s standards.
Ensures that all housekeeping requirements are met.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to work independently or as a member of a team to meet demands.
Ability to work frequently from drawings and blueprints and use measuring devices for close tolerance work.
Broad knowledge of furnace materials and rebuild procedures for wide variety of plant applications.
Ability to learn how to weld, braze, silver solder, and cut a variety of materials employing various methods.
Knowledge of the properties of refractories and the contaminants to ensure no contamination from refractory will occur in the process.
Experience with welding, torching, and fabrication equipment, such as press brakes, shears, and basic pipe threading.
Experience with large tow-motors, sandblasting equipment, rigging equipment, and large hoists preferred.
Experience with electrical systems preferred.
Preferred to have broad knowledge of induction, annealing, heat treat, and arc furnace refractories.
Knowledge of brick laying is preferred.
Basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office products and email.
Demonstrated mechanical ability.
Good verbal and written skills preferred.
Basic math skills.
Effective interpersonal skills to provide customer service preferred.
