Key Responsibilities

Assist welders in preparing materials, equipment, and work areas for welding projects

Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to understand project requirements

Measure, cut, and shape materials according to specifications

Set up welding equipment, including power sources, electrodes, and gas supplies

Clean and prepare metal surfaces for welding

Hold and position workpieces during welding operations

Perform basic welding tasks under supervision

Conduct post‑weld cleaning and finishing operations

Inspect completed welds for quality and adherence to specifications

Maintain a clean and organized work area

Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures

Assist in inventory management of welding supplies and materials

Participate in ongoing training and skill development programs

Qualifications Required

High school diploma or equivalent

Proficiency in basic welding techniques

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Excellent hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity

Physical ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs)

Willingness to work in various environmental conditions (heat, cold, noise)

Basic math skills for measurements and calculations

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Reliable transportation and ability to work flexible hours when needed

Preferred

Completion of a welding program or apprenticeship

Previous experience as a welder helper or in a similar role

Familiarity with various welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick)

Knowledge of metallurgy and material properties

Experience with computer‑aided design (CAD) software

Forklift certification
