Job Summary This position has the ability to troubleshoot, repair and perform routine engine maintenance such as change oil, filters, spark plugs, etc.
Primary Job Functions
Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on all makes of generators
Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify all components of the generator, engine and switch gear
Repair, service and maintain all makes and models of standby generators.
Conduct start-ups, preventative maintenance, service and load bank tests.
Repair, service and maintain all makes and models of standby generators.
Maintain and repair automatic transfer switches; work on a variety of commercial / industrial customer sites
Troubleshoot generator components including alternators, wiring harnesses, safety devices, shutdown switches, and battery systems.
Work on common standby generator brands such as Cummins, Kohler, Generac, Briggs and Stratton.
Perform administrative duties as related to role (meeting all TJC requirements)
Meet requirements for certifications
1–3 years EPG/ Electronics and/or Diesel Engine Repair experience or Technical degree a plus
Positive interface with service writers, foreman, parts department and customers
A valid driver’s license is required
Must be willing to work alternate shifts as required to support the mission
Education, Experience and Certification
High School Diploma or equivalent
3 years' experience as a generator technician
NAC/LAC certifications
Work Conditions
Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but not to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1–3 years of hands‑on experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing standby generators and related electrical/mechanical systems
Experience diagnosing and repairing generator engines, alternators, switchgear, and automatic transfer switches
Experience performing start‑ups, preventive maintenance, load bank testing, and emergency service repairs
Experience working with common generator brands such as Cummins, Kohler, Generac, and Briggs & Stratton
Experience supporting commercial and industrial customer sites and interacting professionally with customers and internal service teams
Prior experience in diesel engine repair, electronics, power generation systems, or a related technical field (or technical degree equivalent)
