General Job Summary To set-up, operate or program various types of machines for production of piece parts for shelters to achieve quality and integrity of products at the lowest possible cost.

Essential Job Functions

Receives instructions both verbally and from detailed prints and routings.

Will be required to set-up and operate various Fabrication shop equipment to complete assigned tasks including drill press, shears, saws, punch press, radial drill, de‑coiler, band saws, press brake, rollers, tubing/pipe benders, various bench mounted equipment, all types of hand tools, electric powered hand tools, air powered hand tools, hoists, cranes, lift trucks.

Performs operations that will include shearing, punching, forming, notching, boring, counter boring, tapping, threading, milling, drilling, reaming, counter sinking, sawing, grinding, cutting, sharpening, chamfering, deburring.

Assists with and/or constructs fixtures, jigs, tools, shop aids.

Will produce piece parts & parts for prototypes as well as parts for machine and building maintenance as needed.

Assists with and/or performs repairs to parts on jigs, fixtures, dies and shop aids.

Assists with repairs to machines and equipment in Fabrication shop as requested or required by maintenance.

All levels may perform other functions such as moving parts/material, loading/unloading, sweeping, cleaning, and various other assignments as needed.

Uses various measuring and inspection tools and equipment for piece part inspection, compliance, accuracy verification.

Maintains a clean and safe work area.

May be asked to work outdoors on occasion as well as in other Departments as needed or required by shop workload.

Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Experience 0‑2 years experience.

Special Knowledge / Skills

Will be able to set-up and run machines/processes in Level I. May also be expected to run machines in Level II that have been set‑up. Begin training in the set‑up of Level II machines/processes.

Saws (4): Band Saw, Straight Radial Arm Saw, All Steel Cutting Saws

Shears (1): 4' Edwards

Bench Equipment (4): Belt/Disc Sander, Chain Cutter, Hand Notcher, Hinge Cutter

Drill Presses (1): Operate Only

Punching/Notching (2): Comaca Notching Press, Bliss Punch Press

Total = 12 Machines/processes

Misc.: 5 Ton Bridge Crane, Vacuum Lifter, Forklift

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.

Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.

Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.

Ability to adhere to workplace rules.

Education and Experience High school graduate or equivalent.

Basic computer skills required.

Basic knowledge of shop math.

Basic blueprint reading.

Fraction and decimal conversion.

Ability to read and understand measuring and inspection equipment, tools.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements Shop Floor environment.

Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.

Ability to perform repetitive motion (rotating wrists, keyboarding, using small/large tools).

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Ability to tolerate constant noise (i.e.: machine motors).

Ability to work safely in the presence of hazardous chemicals and hazardous conditions.

Ability to follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
