Summary: Prepares pipe and related fittings for the automated welding process. Fits pipe run segments and full pipe runs and welds pipe using the automated Rotoweld system by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
This automated welding process is set up to include 4 specific roles. Incumbent operators will rotate between these 4 roles on the crew to support this automated process, and are expected to become competent in each role.
Role #1 – Prep
Reviews and interprets prints and cut list to determine optimized flow of work.
Reviews and interprets pipe nesting sheets on a job by job basis.
Packages pipe and fittings or jobs to be run.
Operates cutting torches and barrel burners to cut, burn and bevel pipe. Also operates saw and bevel machine.
Helps load machine, loads and transports trailer, readies finished product for transport.
Role #2 – Fit up & Tack
Reads and interprets engineering drawings and fabricates parts to the drawings.
Fits up pipe and fittings and tack welds using TIG welding.
Properly prepares pipe and fittings for welding.
Role #3 – Rotoweld Operator
Operates the Rotoweld automated welding machine.
Sets up pipe segments to be run on alternating trolley carriages so that one pipe segment is being welded on carriage #1 while the second is being set-up for welding on carriage #2.
Maintains constant throughput when the Rotoweld automated welding machine is operating.
All Roles Have Additional Responsibilities
Work as a unit and assist other crew members, as needed, to maintain the flow of work and achieve job hour and timeline goals.
Follow organizational procedures for material, work in progress, and completed parts.
Follow labeling procedures and transfer information such as heat numbers and other data.
Perform visual inspections of all work pieces to ensure quality.
Follow equipment maintenance routines on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Participate in routine shop cleaning, keeping work areas clean and organized.
Operate overhead crane and forklift.
Qualifications Must have technical skills to read and interpret engineering drawings, and have knowledge of welding principles, weld quality and TIG welding. Good organizational skills are required.
Education and/or Experience Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
