About the Role The Woodyard Technician role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of chip mill and woodyard activities. This position supports daily operations involving heavy equipment, material handling, chip production, barge loading, and general maintenance, ensuring safety, productivity, and environmental compliance across the site.

Employees in this role are expected to develop a solid understanding of chip mill operations, equipment functionality, and safety procedures, while contributing to a well‑maintained and organized work environment.

What You’re Going to Do Operations & Equipment

Operate cranes and knuckle boom loaders safely and efficiently.

Operate heavy equipment such as front‑end loaders, skid loaders, man lifts, and other rolling stock.

Operate the chipper and support chip production processes.

Prepare, sharpen, and maintain chipper knives.

Operate log haul trucks within the woodyard.

Load mulch and wood chips onto barges at the Cadron Creek location.

Support wet storage installation, maintenance, and removal activities.

Maintenance & Yard Support

Perform routine and preventative maintenance on mill and yard equipment.

Support general yard maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Perform housekeeping duties across the woodyard and chip mill areas.

Assist with emergency work and unplanned maintenance when required.

Safety & Teamwork

Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.

Participate in required safety and operational training.

Work collaboratively with other team members to meet operational goals.

Be available for extended hours, swing shifts, weekends, and emergency call‑ins as needed.

What We Expect from You

High School Diploma or equivalent (required).

Ability to read and write.

Previous experience operating heavy equipment (knuckle boom loader, front‑end loader, skid loader, man lift, etc.) is preferred.

Experience performing routine equipment maintenance is preferred.

Willingness and ability to be trained in safety and quality work processes.

Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Flexibility to work extended hours (10–14 hour shifts), weekends, and swing shifts with short notice.

Typical Work Schedule (may vary based on operational needs)

Monday – Friday: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm

Saturday: 7:00 am to 3:00 pm

Physical Requirements

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to extreme temperatures.

Ability to perform heavy lifting, climbing, bending, and repetitive physical tasks.

Ability to work at heights up to approximately 80 feet using elevated walkways, platforms, or man lifts.

Ability to operate cranes and knuckle boom loaders while equipment is in motion.

Must be able to swim, as access to barges is required for securing, drafting, and unhooking cables.

Exposure to noise, dust, and industrial environments (appropriate PPE provided).

Safety toe boots are required at the start of employment (other PPE will be provided).
