Description Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems for recreation and parks facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Senior Maintenance Mechanic.
Examples of Duties
Installs and repairs scoreboards; installs and repairs basketball goals; installs and repairs playground equipment.
Repairs ceramic kilns; repairs faucets, toilets, water lines; recovers pool tables; repairs recreation center games and equipment; researches materials and methods of repairs; performs minor electrical work; repairs picnic shelters, tables and benches; installs and repairs door closers, locks and doors; pours and finishes concrete; performs routine carpentry work.
Assists setup crews with setting of mobile stages, delivers and sets up folding tables and chairs for city related events; assists other positions within the recreation department with construction needs such as sign placements, installing benches, picnic tables, etc.
Alerts supervisors of issues and safety concerns; notifies other departments of needs within the parks such as pothole and vegetation concerns.
Completes work orders and maintains inventories of materials; reviews job safety manuals.
Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in maintenance and repairs, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures.
General knowledge of maintenance and construction methods, procedures, tools and equipment used for the trade.
General knowledge of electrical and mechanical repair work.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and to complete satisfactorily assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; compute rates, ratios and percentages.
Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, supervisors, and the general public.
Physical Requirements:
Requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; requires sitting, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions; may involve walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires standard vision and vocal communication skills. May require exposure to wet, humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, outdoor weather, extreme cold, vibration, and fumes. Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g., grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
