Job Summary A Machinist II at Doble Engineering will be a member of the Production Department. This role will follow blueprints, determine material measurements, fabricate parts used in later assembly processes, and ensure quality output. The position is located at Doble’s Accident, Maryland facility and reports to the Production Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines
Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate production
Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping
Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task
Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment
Ability to assist with small assemblies/sub-assemblies within the assembly dept, including but not limited to variac and tap switch components, Small Resonant Test Set (RTS) assemblies (Tank Type); Column Type Variable Transformer sub-assemblies; CTVT Regulators, Variacs, Double and Triple stacks including drive chains and clutches.
Maintains inventory of completed products
Conserves materials by minimizing waste
Checks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects
Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs
Set up and operate CNC lathes or mills
Perform first article and in process inspections
Perform general maintenance on the machines
Participate in Lean Manufacturing activities
Follows safety regulations such as wearing protective face coverings/glasses, gloves, and safety shoes
Maintains a safe and clean workstation
Performs other duties as requested by management
Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of required level of education.
Required Experience
4-7 years of machinist experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of how to set up and operate CNC lathes or mills
Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly
Ability to edit machine programs
Understanding of blueprints, drawings, and models
Knowledge of inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
Proficiency in math
Working knowledge of safety protocols
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Outstanding attention to detail
Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, fast-paced team environment
Preferred Experience
Formal apprenticeship or vocational training as a machinist is preferred.
Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co‑workers, and customers. Compensation Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, and relevant education or training experience.
Hourly Pay Range Minimum $23.40 - Midpoint $29.25
