Responsible for repairing and maintaining various equipment in the Houma, LA Yard and will report to the Fabrication Foreman. Must have a 6GR welding certificate or have the ability to pass a 6GR pre‑employment test.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify, propose and implement remedies.

Perform repairs and maintenance aboard dredges and other marine vessels.

Install, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various equipment.

Fabricate with different types of metals via torches, plasma and other related craft power tools.

Understanding of diagrams, schematics, drawings and technical manuals for repairs and diagnostics of equipment.

Understand and sketch complex mechanical and structural drawings.

Utilize instruments to measure angles, material thickness and distances i.e. squares, levels, tapes and other craft related devices.

Regularly communicate and work with contractors, vendors and other trades.

Ensure work areas are kept clean and well organized.

Complete assigned tasks in a safe and productive manner.

Follows all company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Estimating sizes, distances and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.

Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

Qualifications

3+ years of fabrication and shipyard experience.

Technical understanding of stick, tig/mig & flux‑core processes.

Experience in weld testing procedures. 6GR.

Understanding of ABS, OSHA, and USCG regulations related to field.

Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site.

Travel (by land, air, and water) to field locations is required, transportation paid.

Ability to work a 50‑hour work week M-F, overtime as needed.

Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.

Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools, layout tools and measurement tools.

Requirements

Must possess a valid Driver's license and have a good driving record.

Required Certification: FCAW‑6GR (Required), SMAW‑6GR (Required), TWIC – Transportation Worker Identification Credential (Preferred).

Must be able to tolerate heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels in a shipyard setting.

Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend, or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.

Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts, up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

Performs other duties as required.
