Job Summary The Generator Mechanic/Service Technician will consult with the Service Manager to plan their work and travel schedule in the surrounding area. Using a company‑supplied vehicle, you will travel to the customer’s residence to perform repair work and preventive maintenance on whole‑home standby generators. You will use mechanical and electrical knowledge of generators or small engines to troubleshoot and repair generators, read and understand technical manuals, electrical wiring diagrams, and blueprints, update the software system with service information, and adhere to all safety practices.
The typical work schedule is Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with flexibility for weather or customer needs.
Responsibilities
Use company vehicle to travel to customer residences.
Communicate directly with customers about arrival, work performed, and issues resolved.
Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain customers’ home generators.
Follow technical instruction manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and procedures.
Test, troubleshoot, and operate automatic transfer switches.
Document services performed in the electronic software system.
Adhere to all safety practices and requirements.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
Problem‑solving, organization, and decision‑making skills.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
Reading and comprehension skills to understand technical manuals and wiring diagrams.
Ability to drive company vehicles safely within and surrounding the area.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience with mechanical small‑engine repair work.
Experience with electrical wiring.
Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
Physical ability to perform tasks such as bending, stooping, climbing ladders, pulling, grasping, and walking on uneven surfaces.
Ability to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
Proper eyesight/vision to perform mechanical repairs safely.
Ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
