Job Duties and Responsibilities The Skilled Tradesman - Plumber is responsible for the work activities in the skilled trade of plumbing. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Interprets blueprints, sketches, and work orders;

Cut and thread pipe; cut, clean, sand, and solder copper pipe;

Set basic plumbing fixtures (urinals, commodes, sinks, bathtubs, showers);

Operate the cable and jet water sewer cleaning machine;

Clean and weld PVC pipe;

Bore holes in various materials (wood, concrete, steel) to run supply lines and drains;

Install and maintain Pyrex and chemical-resistant pipe and fixtures;

Install and maintain plumbing systems, sewer systems, and fire hydrants;

Install and maintain all types of valves (gate, ball, globe, butterfly);

Maintain and modify existing plumbing systems;

Maintain sewage lift systems;

Maintains inventory on tools and parts specific to the assigned trade;

May assist other skilled tradesmen in completing projects that require multiple departments to work together;

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Formal education or training equivalent to a high school diploma.

Requires AR Journeyman Plumber’s License according to ACA 17-38-301.

Five or more years of experience and practice as a Journeyman Plumber or other specialty certifications may be allowed as a substitute.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledgeable of Arkansas State Plumbing Codes (gas, water, air, vacuum, and sewer);

Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in one or more of the skilled trades;

Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the various skilled trades;

Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to one or more of the skilled trades;

Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for one or more of the skilled trades;

Ability to wear a respirator;

Ability to negotiate distances (from building to building on campus) and the ability to go up and down stairs in multi‑story buildings;

Ability to hold, start, use, and operate tools and equipment used in the skilled trade for extended periods;

Ability to load/unload tools and equipment (weights varying up to 75 lbs.);

Ability to communicate with the campus community and co‑workers;

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;

Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
