Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Enforces Federal State and local laws.
2. Investigates criminal offenses reported and assigned to them by the Police Command and documents activity in detailed reports.
3. Conduct Internal investigations as needed and requested by the Chief of Police.
4. Prepares detailed and clear reports in regards to investigations to present to the Police Lieutenant or Chief of Police and the prosecuting attorney.
5. Processing crime scenes and collecting evidence at major crime scenes.
6. Acts in an investigative capacity to augment investigations of criminal offenses originally reported to the patrol division.
7. Acts as scene supervisor in investigating/processing crime scenes.
8. Collects and submits evidence in criminal investigations.
9. Serves arrest warrants and search warrants as requires in the course of investigating criminal activity.
10. Interviews and interrogates suspects, witnesses, and victims when possible in the process of investigating alleged criminal activity.
11. Ensures cases submitted to the prosecuting attorney are complete and investigations of alleged offenses are thorough.
12. Consults with command staff and prosecutor’s office on all major felony investigations and provide updates/status of said cases.
13. Performs other job-related duties as required by Police Chief and Command Staff.

Required:
1. High School Degree or equivalent, 60 college hours from an accredited college or university. Six years of police experience, supplemented by specialized investigative training.
2. Ten years of police experience with at least four years of criminal Investigative experience
3. Knowledge of contemporary criminal investigation practices, technical and operational principles, and practices within a Criminal Investigation
4. Experience directly related to interview and interrogation and court room testimony
5. Minimum of three years of investigations experience assigned to detectives, homicide, narcotics, or any plain clothes division
6. Experience directly related to investigating criminal acts and case preparation for prosecution
7. Interview and interrogation experience and verifiable court room testimony at any level (local, State, Federal)
1. Texas Peace Officer Certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
2. Master Peace Officer Certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
3. Valid Texas Driver’s License
4. Certifications and practical application of law enforcement/crime prevention strategies
Preferred:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
Knowledge of contemporary criminal investigation practices, technical and operational principles, and practices within a Criminal Investigation
Master Peace Officer, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement
Instructor Certificate/Proficiency, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement
Certified Criminal Investigator
Previous Law Enforcement experience preferred.
Utilizes advanced techniques in criminal investigations
Maintains a close working relationship with all Department personnel, prosecutor’s office, and the college community
Conducts thorough interview/interrogations of suspects and victims
Maintains sound judgment within guidelines set by State law, city policy, and department policy in situations of high stress and danger
Supervision Exercised Sergeant/Investigator will supervise Police Aids that are monitoring reserved parking lots. Under direction/supervision of the Police Lieutenant, serves as investigator of criminal offenses reported within the Laredo College jurisdiction.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
