Elected Constable for Pct 1 of Brazoria Constable Office

Accountable to the Constable of the Brazoria County Constable's Office Pct. 1 by performing the following duties. Candidate will be directly responsible for the security of the Justice Courts in Precinct 1 while in session and overall security of Brazoria County properties, buildings, employees, and citizens. Example of Duties

Ensures the personal safety of the Judges and all persons in the courtrooms and surrounding areas; Screens and searches as necessary all people entering the courtroom to prevent the carrying of weapons and/or contraband items into the courtroom; Maintains security during all court proceedings including maintaining the custody of in‑custody defendants; Makes arrests of subjects in court at direction of Judges, may assist in arranging transport of subjects to jail and ensures all documentation is accurate and adequate for arrest and detention; Monitors and operates security and radio equipment; and Maintains the necessary TCOLE training requirements for Texas Peace Officer License; Transports juvenile offenders from juvenile court; processes documentation regarding transportation; Performs warrant service; contacts defendants to advise them on the disposition of outstanding traffic warrants; Provides judicial officer duties and courtroom security for the justice of the peace courts; maintains order; makes arrests in court; provides assistance to attorneys, plaintiffs and defendants within the court; Receives documents from courts, law firms and the general public; performs data entry prior to distribution for service; Assists in emergency situations by participating with the command center; May serve as a liaison with local, state and federal law enforcement and/or criminal justice agencies; Works with school groups and civic groups as necessary; Performs patrols of designated areas of the precinct; performs traffic control as necessary; May serve on special committees or task forces as assigned. Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; Law enforcement experience preferred; Acceptable combination of education, training and experience as determined by the Constable and Human Resources; Must be at least 21 years of age; Have no more than 20/200 vision that is correctable to 20/20; No past convictions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI or DUI); No more than three (3) moving violations within the last 2 years; Not have any felony convictions; Not have any misdemeanor convictions for any offense involving moral turpitude or family violence; Be a United States Citizen [born or naturalized] and possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.; If prior military service, possess an honorable discharge; Be prepared to purchase regulation departmental uniforms (a minimum of $200); Have a current, working telephone. License & Certification Requirements

TCOLE certification; Possession of a valid Texas state driver's license (and must attend a 20-hour Civil Process course after being hired); Must obtain TCOLE Court Security certificate within 1 year of appointment. This basic certification is a legislative requirement for any deputy performing bailiff duties. It is preferred they also become certified as TCOLE Court Security Specialist. Physical Demands and Working Environment

Work is typically performed indoors; however outdoor work environments may be assigned. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 200 pounds. May be required to climb ladders. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, run, climb, jump, and use hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Supplemental Information
