Job Description: Phlebotomist I

Location: Jacksonville, FL
Duration: 6+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Rotating Saturdays: 7:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.

Position Summary

The Phlebotomist I (Patient Services Representative I – PSR I) serves as the face of the organization to patients receiving routine or diagnostic bloodwork. This role is responsible for collecting high quality blood specimens, preparing samples for laboratory testing, ensuring patient comfort, and upholding strict procedural and safety standards. The PSR I must demonstrate professionalism, accuracy, strong patient communication skills, and adherence to confidentiality and process excellence principles.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Specimen Collection

  • Perform safe, accurate, and high quality venipuncture and capillary blood collections, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Explain procedures clearly, ensuring patient trust, comfort, and understanding.
  • Prepare and label specimens according to established protocols and compliance requirements.

Operational Duties

  • Complete daily tasks accurately, on time, and under the direction of the Area Supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment.
  • Perform both forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties confidently and consistently.
  • Maintain detailed and compliant documentation, logs, and records.

Professionalism & Communication

  • Uphold organizational standards by promoting a positive image with patients, coworkers, and external partners.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviors, confidentiality awareness, and patient focused communication.
  • Work independently with minimal on site supervision, while adapting to changing business needs.

Job Requirements

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to deliver precise, error free work in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills, inclusive of pediatric and geriatric collections.
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills.
  • Must be flexible and available for staffing needs including weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent — REQUIRED
  • Medical Assistant or Paramedic training — Preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification — Preferred (Required in CA, NV, WA)

Experience

  • Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience — REQUIRED
  • 1+ year phlebotomy experience — Preferred
  • Customer service experience in retail or service environments — Preferred
  • Keyboarding/data entry experience — Required

Additional Requirements

  • Resume must include home city and commute time (required for rate alignment and commute verification).
  • Reliable personal transportation is required (bus/Uber/rideshare are not acceptable).
  • Must be punctual, able to work full scheduled shifts, and maintain strong attendance—excessive tardiness/absenteeism will result in termination.
  • Candidates must live within a 20–25 minute commute to ensure consistent coverage.
  • Rate is based strictly on direct, non overlapping experience .
