Summary
Job Summary
Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Provides timely medical/forensic examination of the sexual assault/forensic patient under the collaboration of law enforcement, adult or Child Protective Services.
Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity in the provision of patient care.
Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.
Assist the Emergency Department Associates as directed by SANE Management Associate(s).
A minimum of one weekend per month of on-call (24 hours) is expected, with a 60-minute response time. Skills 1. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. 2. Effective oral and written communication skills. 3. Effective interpersonal relationship skills. 4. Ability to utilize computers for documentation purposes. 5. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions. 6. Ability to identify the needs of sexually assaulted patients that would require physician intervention and seek such intervention in a timely manner 7. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Work Experience Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the following areas:
SANE, Trauma, Emergency Department, ICU, Pediatrics, Woman’s Health or other related field. License/Registration/Certification 1. Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas required. 2. Current CPR training program required. 3. Certified as an Adult Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certification by the Texas Attorney General’s Office required. 4. Certified as a Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certification by the Texas Attorney General’s Office required. Education and Training 1. Bachelor degree in Nursing required.
May consider Associate degree in Nursing with 5 years of clinical experience in Trauma, Emergency Department, Women’s Health or other related field. 2. Completion of the following trainings required or obtained within 1 year of being in the department: - Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or Advance Trauma Course for Nurses (ATCN) - Emergency Pediatric Nurse Course (ENPC) - Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) 3. TNCC/ATCN and ENPC instructor status is highly preferred.
