Job Description

Assists in providing oversight for all aspects of patient safety and patient monitoring provided by Patient Safety Supporters and Central Staffing Office Patient Care Specialists working as a qualified staff member to perform patient monitoring. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Serves as a resource to those fulfilling the Patient Safety Supporter role communicates and enforces policy and procedure requirements.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Patient Safety Supporter performing 1:1 monitoring of at risk patients

Preferred Qualifications

Experience precepting other staff members in the Patient Safety Supporter or similar role

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Certification Summary

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment or at time of offer if working in the Emergency Department

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills Ability to work without direct supervision Ability to coordinate work schedules and effectively utilize manpower to accomplish required tasks Ability to apply judgment and make sound decisions Ability to balance multiple priorities Ability to identify problems, brainstorm possible solutions, communicate and take action, solve the problem, and prevent the problem from recurring Ability to calmly and professionally resolve verbal/physical responses in stressful situations Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

Job Responsibilities

Maintains a safe environment for all patients through 1:1 continuous monitoring while complying with all established procedures and policies. Provides excellent service in interactions with all customers, including coworkers, patients, visitors, physicians, and volunteers. Acts as a shift lead in supporting supervisor with operational responsibilities on a daily basis. Assists with training needs of staff. Proactively rounds with departmental staff and leaders from other departments. Thinks, acts, and behaves as the shift lead in the absence of supervisor or manager. Responds to and assists with staff emergencies involving CSO PSS/PCS staff including Code BERTS. Supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of quality of services provided. Assist Supervisor and/or Manager with development of staff by being available to teammates, acting as a resource to help complete complicated/complex tasks, providing on the job training to team, and seeking out opportunities to become actively involved in staff workflow and development. Provide Supervisor and/or Manager feedback on staff performance, educational needs, and workflow status.
