Position Summary:
Certified Air Traffic Control (ATC)
Instructor II
is a hands-on position that requires the candidate to effectively deliver high-quality classroom and lab training to a variety of students, including developmental air traffic controllers and certified professional controllers (CPC). The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent teaching and classroom management skills, a student-focused approach for continuous improvement, and strong technical skills with current ATC automation, simulation systems, and procedures. This senior position will also involve mentoring students and instructors, as well as curriculum design and development. ATTN FERS RETIREES:
Earnings received as an ATC Instructor, ATC Training Instructional Supervisor, or Contractor Site Supervisor working on this program are exempt from the Supplemental Annuity earnings limits for FERS retirees between ages 56 and 62. Competencies and Skills: Knowledge of current practices in Air Traffic Control and the NAS. Instructor II trainees must be classroom certified by Facility Technical Liaison (FTL) within 60 days of reporting for duty. Laboratory certification: Trainees must have the knowledge and skills for each laboratory (radar, non-radar, etc.) they will teach. All hires must pass a written FAA knowledge test for each sector with a score of at least 70%. Laboratory certification must be achieved within 120 days of reporting for duty. Effective interfacing with FAA personnel at all levels to ensure responsive, comprehensive, and high-quality local training. Exceptional customer service orientation. Outstanding communication skills. Ability to work productively with diverse individuals and teams. This is a part-time position. EEO employer! Requirements Experience and Education: Minimum of five (5) years recent experience as a Certified Professional Controller in an FAA air traffic control facility, in the specific ATC option applied for. Experience at similar or higher-level facilities. Classroom and simulator laboratory instructor experience (procedural and radar). Prior (or current) On-the-Job Training Instructor (OJTI) certification with at least 3+ years of experience. Operational experience with ATC simulators such as SYDIM, AT Coach, and TSS, including scenario design and pseudo/remote pilot operations, is a plus. Curriculum design and development experience is desirable. Knowledge of local facility operations and ATC area experience is preferred.
