Job Description Description: Grounds & Maintenance Team Members maintain the turf, plant beds, trees, walkways and parking lots to enhance the beauty of the campus landscape. Team Members are prepared to assist all maintenance departments: the carpenter shop, painting, mechanical shop, warehouse, and custodians and perform all other duties as assigned. Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintains turf areas of the campus landscape by: Mowing, edging and trimming Removing litter, limbs and leaves Eliminating dead animals and handling burrowing animals Repairs damages 2. Maintains trees, shrubs and herbaceous plant beds by: Pruning, planting and edging. Removing plants, mulching and weeding. Installing and maintaining landscape construction. 3. Maintains walkways and parking lots by: Removing grass clippings, leaves, limbs, and litter. Cleaning storm drains storm drains. Installs and maintains signs and posts. 4. Maintains equipment by: Washing and sharpening. Checking oil, fuel and filters. 5. Seasonal weather maintenance Snow and ice removal. Salting of walkways, stairs and entrance ways. Will work varied schedule, which may include overnights. 6. Follows safety procedures. Provide and monitor ongoing grounds safety. 7. Completes additional duties as assigned Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. One year experience in landscape work. Ability to read and understand instruction for the safe use of machinery. Valid Missouri vehicle operators permit. Relationships: You will have frequent contact with team members and your immediate supervisor requiring planning, coordinating, problem solving, presenting information and suggestions related to mutual goals. You'll also have frequent contact with members of other departments, students, building occupants requiring the exchange of information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices, and functions. This position requires occasional contact with the public, government agencies, vendors, and contractors requiring exchange of information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices, and functions.
Work Conditions: Duties are performed primarily outside in variable weather conditions with daily exposure to noise, dust, pollen, mold spores, heat, cold, rain, snow and exhaust fumes. Work requires frequent and repeated lifting, bending, stooping reaching, walking and riding equipment while operating foot pedals and hand controls. Cannot be afraid of heights. Work requires safety awareness and attention to detail.
