Apple's Compositing, Color, and Display Software organization provides the graphics software foundation for all of Apple's innovative products, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac and Apple Watch. Our goal is to enable developers and HI designers to create exceptional visual experiences by efficiently utilizing hardware acceleration and color technologies through compositing and display. The technologies we develop are central to enabling enhanced experiences across our platforms, including acceleration for Liquid Glass UI material and presenting HDR content with the highest quality. Description Senior Engineer on the UI Performance and Power team responsible for analyzing and optimizing graphics compositing performance across Apple's product lineup. In this role, the candidate will drive performance improvements that directly impact user experience, develop tools for performance analysis, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver a smooth, glitch-free, responsive, and power-efficient UI across all Apple devices.
Responsibilities
Analyze and optimize performance of UI rendering and compositing systems across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Mac platforms
Develop tools and automation for performance analysis, profiling, and regression detection
Debug complex performance issues across multi-layered graphics and compositing systems
Partner with UI/Media Framework teams, HI designers, and app developers to optimize UI experiences
Collaborate with Metal graphics framework and OS teams to leverage platform capabilities
Influence power and performance management policies balancing responsiveness with battery life
Provide data-driven insights to inform technical decisions and future roadmaps
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of experience in software development, including software release and integration processes
Strong experience with performance analysis, optimization, and profiling techniques
Hands-on experience with real-time rendering and computer graphics
Strong foundational understanding of Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, and CPU/GPU programming
Strong C/C++ programming and systems-level development
Proven debugging skills for complex, multi-layered systems
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Metal or modern graphics APIs (DirectX, Vulkan)
Experience with Mac or iOS application development using Swift or Objective-C
Knowledge of power management and battery-life analysis techniques
Experience with memory footprint analysis and optimizations
Experience developing performance analysis tools and automation frameworks
Experience with automated performance testing and regression analysis systems
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
