Job Description/Job Responsibilities: Purpose of the Position: To meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of children through:
Sunday morning Bible study
Sunday and Wednesday evening groups
Family-friendly, Christ-centered events and activities
Primary Responsibilities:
Sunday Morning Bible Study
The Director of Children’s Ministry will:
Ensure all curriculum and supplies are prepared for Sunday School and Church Service.
Confirm that all teaching staff and volunteers are present.
Inspect classrooms, bathrooms, and hallways to ensure they are clean, safe, clutter‑free, and welcoming.
Be present at the check‑in station at least 20 minutes before classes begin to welcome families.
Remain at the check‑in station until 15 minutes after class begins.
Return to the check‑in station 5 minutes before Sunday School dismissal.
Attend the church service on Sundays.
Be present in the gathering area outside the worship center at the conclusion of the service to review children’s activity pages and distribute a small treat or toy from the designated box.
Ensure that all classrooms are left orderly before leaving site.
Sunday Evening Events (when events are planned)
The Director of Children’s Ministry will:
Ensure activities and supplies are prepared for any Sunday events.
Confirm all teaching staff and volunteers are present.
Inspect classrooms, bathrooms, and hallways to ensure cleanliness and readiness.
If not teaching, remain available to assist as needed.
Ensure all classrooms are dismissed and left orderly before leaving the site.
Wednesday Evening Services
The Director of Children’s Ministry will:
Ensure curriculum and supplies are prepared for all classes (currently AWANA Clubs).
Confirm all teaching staff and volunteers are present.
Inspect classrooms, bathrooms, and hallways to ensure cleanliness and readiness.
If not teaching, remain available to assist as needed.
Family-Friendly Events
Easter Event/s
Encourage participation from all Sunday School classes in setup, event execution, and cleanup.
Begin planning at least
two months in advance .
Coordinate egg and candy donations.
Promote and invite the surrounding community.
Schedule the event for the day before Easter when weather permits.
Organize egg stuffing on Wednesday prior to the event.
Backyard Kids Clubs/Vacation Bible School (BYKC/VBS)
Select an appropriate theme and curriculum (free, Lifeway, or other approved publishers).
Determine location/s, schedule, and format.
Coordinate staffing, décor, and supplies.
Begin planning
6‑9 months in advance .
Utilize planning tools provided by curriculum publishers.
KidsKamp
Recruit, train, and supervise camp volunteers and leaders.
Manage camp budget and organize fundraising opportunities for children and their families.
Manage camper registration, maintain records, and communicate with parents/guardians.
Promote the camp through church channels, maintain clear communication with parents, and provide updates before, during, and after camp.
Organize post‑camp connections to integrate children and families into ongoing church programs.
Fall Festival/Light the Night
Encourage participation from all Sunday School classes in setup, event execution, and cleanup.
Begin planning at least
two months in advance .
Coordinate candy donations.
Determine candy distribution method (gift bags, prizes, trunk‑or‑treat, etc.).
Promote the event to the surrounding community.
Schedule the event for Halloween or another agreed‑upon date.
Quarterly Family Activities
Plan at least
one family‑friendly activity per quarter .
Activities should be open to the entire church.
Activities should be Christ‑centered, promote family communication, and strengthen church community.
Events should be meaningful while remaining budget conscious.
Promotion
Promotion dates will be determined through staff meetings.
Prior to promotion:
Review classrooms for appropriate student‑to‑teacher ratios.
Confirm classroom capacity.
Confirm returning staff and recruit replacements as needed.
Coordinate with the church secretary to update student and staff records in the church database.
General Staff Expectations
Attend weekly staff meetings (typically held on Monday afternoon unless otherwise noted).
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding personal and sensitive information about church members and their families.
Be present for all Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening services unless approved leave is granted.
Staff must arrive at least 45 minutes prior to service start times.
Attend all “special” services, arriving at least one hour prior to service start times unless otherwise directed.
Attend the annual churchwide calendar planning meeting when it is held.
Budgets, calendars, and ministry goals must be typed and submitted to the church secretary prior to the retreat.
Prepare and manage an annual departmental budget following church guidelines.
All purchases must be approved by the Senior Pastor.
Receipts must be submitted to the church secretary.
Develop and submit an annual calendar of events for approval and scheduling coordination.
Establish an annual ministry goal and present quarterly updates to the congregation.
Attend quarterly informational meetings and the annual December business meeting.
Research, select, and manage curriculum and supplies within the approved budget.
Professional Qualifications and Education Requirements
Capable of fulfilling all essential functions and responsibilities as outlined in your job description.
Able to function well in a professional, office environment
