Aleknagik Technology, LLC is searching for a qualified candidate to fill the role of
Data Governance Engineer . This position supports enterprise-level data governance initiatives for a federal health organization and requires close collaboration with technical, security, and mission stakeholders.
The selected candidate must be
within commuting distance of Falls Church, VA , as this role requires on-site and hybrid support in alignment with customer requirements.
Duties The Data Governance Engineer is responsible for the engineering, implementation, automation, and sustainment of enterprise data governance and metadata management capabilities. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Engineer and execute technical workflows supporting the baseline inventory of authoritative and secondary-use data systems.
Configure and maintain structured metadata capture templates and tooling to ensure consistent and standards-based data collection.
Support ingestion of system metadata, technical attributes, interfaces, and data flows into centralized governance repositories.
Validate metadata for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and alignment with defined governance standards.
Configure, maintain, and secure interim centralized repositories using approved platforms (e.g., SharePoint, PowerApps).
Implement technical controls for access management, versioning, audit logging, and data segregation.
Develop and maintain workflows for metadata submission, review, update, approval, and archival.
Support technical evaluation and prototyping activities for enterprise data catalog solutions.
Develop scripts and pipelines using SQL, Python, R, and other approved tools to automate metadata harvesting from source systems.
Implement automated metadata refresh, validation, and quality assurance routines.
Support AI-assisted documentation and metadata generation using approved tools.
Implement metadata standards, schemas, data dictionaries, and lifecycle workflows.
Configure data quality indicators, dashboards, and exception alerts.
Execute technical compliance checks supporting HIPAA, DoD, and DHA governance requirements.
Engineer and maintain federated metadata exchange mechanisms between internal and external catalog platforms.
Support self-service data discovery features, user acceptance testing (UAT), and performance tuning.
Collect and analyze usage metrics, system logs, and operational performance indicators.
Develop technical documentation, user guides, and operational support materials.
Support optional federated governance workflows and data product lifecycle automation, including versioning, SLAs, and deprecation.
Qualifications Required Experience
4-7 years of experience
in:
Data engineering, automation, and scripting (SQL, Python, R)
Metadata management and data catalog platforms
API integration and metadata exchange mechanisms
Data quality validation and operational controls
Federated or hybrid data environments
DoD, DHA, or federal compliance and security frameworks
Technical documentation and operational sustainment
Required Education
Bachelor's degree
in a related field, such as:
Engineering
Information Technology
Data Analytics
Mathematics
Physical or Life Sciences
