Summary
Assesses, provides, and documents effective spiritual care to patients, families, and staff in a variety of situations, including but not limited to crisis interventions, grief and bereavement, end of life care, and faith crises.
Responsibilities
Provides spiritual and religious resources as requested by patient/family
Introduces patient/family to services of the Spiritual Care department
Contacts community clergy as requested by patient/family
Screens for possible spiritual distress and refers these cases to chaplain for follow up
Refers ongoing complex needs to chaplains for assessment and follow up
Ability to function effectively under stress, to cope with crises situations, and to respond creatively to a multiplicity of changes
Provides hospitality and assistance to visiting clergy as needed
Facilitates ethical decision making with patients/families
Respects confidentiality of information from all sources, including patients, family members, other volunteers and CSRHS associates
Understands and adheres to the CHRISTUS Associate Covenant and Code of Ethics
Demonstrates cultural humility and sensitivity with respect to the patient populations served
Documents spiritual assessments and interventions in the patient's medical record
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Bachelor's degree preferred, Master's degree in Pastoral Ministry, Spirituality, Theology, or Divinity preferred
Previous CPE unit(s) preferred
Minimum of one year supervised ministry in a clinical setting
Previous CPE unit(s) preferred
Must be endorsed by leader of their faith community
