Thrive, an 87,000 square foot multigenerational recreation center, is one of the main components of the bond package passed by Lewisville voters in November 2015. It features an indoor natatorium, a gymnasium, an indoor walking track, an expanded fitness area, community rooms, and an indoor playground for children. For example, starting pay for new hires is $16.67 per hour. For employees returning for a second year, the hourly rate increases to $17.17, with further incremental increases for additional years up to six. This system rewards dedication and allows returning employees to continue growing with us while benefiting from their prior experience in the role with the City of Lewisville.

Position Summary Under the direction of the Recreation Specialist-Aquatics, the part‑time Water Safety Instructor implements lesson plans for group swim lessons, assists individuals scheduled for private and semi‑private swim lessons, and assists in educating Thrive guests of water safety. Organizes and gives direction to Swim Lesson Aides who assist the class.

Generally shifts will vary and can start/end 30 minutes before or after the facility's open hours. Special events may take place outside facility hours.

Ensures the safety of class participants.

Implements lesson plans for group swim lessons.

Assists individuals scheduled for private and semi‑private swim lessons.

Assists in educating guests of all age groups water safety.

Organizes and gives direction to Swim Lesson Aides who assist the class.

Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly working a flexible schedule, working days, nights, weekends and holidays as required.

Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with team members and facility guests.

Must be at least 16 years of age.

Must have at least one season experience teaching learn‑to‑swim classes.

Must submit to and pass pre‑employment drug test.

Must hold current CPR/AED Certificate.

Must hold or be able to obtain CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate within 30 days of hire.

Must hold or be able to obtain First Aid Certificate within 30 days of hire.

All persons hired are required to provide their own swimsuit as specified by the Aquatic Supervisor.

Preferences

Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent certification preferred.

Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate preferred.

Our facility is open to the public seven days a week, with operating hours ranging from early mornings to evenings. While our general hours are: Monday–Thursday: 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM Friday: 5:00 AM – 8:00 PM Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM Sunday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Team members typically work standard 8-hour shifts, which may vary depending on the needs of the facility. Flexibility is key, and schedules are created with fairness and advance notice in mind.
