Mechanical Test Technician
System One is seeking a Mechanical Test Technician to support advanced engineering and testing activities within the nuclear energy sector. This role is ideal for hands‑on, detail‑oriented technicians who enjoy working closely with engineers and scientists to support prototype development, mechanical testing, and experimental systems in a regulated environment.

Position Summary The Mechanical Test Technician will independently perform a wide range of technical tasks in support of mechanical testing campaigns. The role involves collaboration with engineers, scientists, machinists, and other technicians to design, fabricate, assemble, operate, and test components, subassemblies, vessels, piping systems, and experimental prototypes.
This position requires hands‑on mechanical aptitude, the ability to operate sophisticated test equipment, and experience collecting and evaluating test data to support prototype adjustments and test execution.
Key Responsibilities
Execute hands‑on mechanical testing campaigns in accordance with approved procedures
Perform work in compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines
Support design, procurement, fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of test equipment and engineering infrastructure
Assist with laboratory maintenance, organization, and cleanup
Repair and maintain mechanical equipment and systems
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate conceptual requirements into test specifications, including instrumentation strategies and success criteria
Define, select, and validate measurement instrumentation (e.g., load cells, LVDTs, encoders, RTDs, strain gauges, temperature sensors)
Coordinate cross‑functional efforts including fixture design, control system integration, and lab space planning
Manage test campaigns from concept through execution and reporting, including setup, validation, and post‑test analysis
Support testing activities that may require working at elevated heights (typically under 60 feet)
Under guidance of senior engineers, assist with setup and commissioning of experimental equipment
Apply nuclear industry best practices and support continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications & Skills
High School Diploma or GED (required)
2‑or 4‑year technical degree (preferred)
Minimum 4 years of experience in test operations (nuclear, aerospace, military, or industrial)
Relevant school or military experience may substitute
Basic math skills including algebra, fractions, percentages, and unit conversions
Knowledge of pumps, electric motors, motor controls, piping systems, hydraulic systems, and mechanical equipment
Proficiency with personal computers and standard software (Word, Excel, spreadsheets, control system interfaces)
Ability to accurately perform, document, and report laboratory test results
Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings
Ability to read meters and gauges accurately
Understanding of electrical, radiological, and chemical hazards and safety practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
LabVIEW experience is a plus
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
Bending, stooping, grasping, gripping, and fine motor control required
Ability to safely lift up to 25 pounds
Repetitive work and visual/audio focused tasks
Work environment may include stairs, typing/keyboard use, and extended workdays (>8 hours)
Travel: 0–5%
