Project Overview Port Arthur LNG, LLC (PALNG) is developing a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on a site located on the western shoreline of the Port Arthur Canal in Jefferson County, Texas. The project base scope will include two LNG trains, two LNG storage tanks, one LNG carrier berth, and associated utilities/facilities. The project is to be constructed on a parcel along State Highway 87 south of Port Arthur, between the inner coastal waterway bridge and Keith Lake.
Job Summary The Commissioning and Startup (CSU) Process Engineer is responsible for CSU Process Engineering support activities on the Port Arthur LNG Project. In addition, the CSU Process Engineer shall coordinate and execute demonstration tests of equipment and packaged components with commissioning engineer and operator support, and support the plant performance test of the process trains.
Major Responsibilities
Works with startup system engineers to execute demonstration and performance tests.
Produces plant simulations, studies, calculations, equipment sizing, process checks, research, and other process design tasks for the CSU team, pulling in diverse information from various sources and evaluating against safety, quality, cost, and schedule drivers.
Evaluates necessary design changes and coordinates with resident and home office engineers to troubleshoot problems found by the CSU team.
Uses current UniSim models of the plant to simulate different operating cases and modes to assist in achieving reliable steady‑state operation.
Acts as subject matter expert for the general process, troubleshooting during startup and initial operation.
Coordinates process licensors and vendor technical queries related to design and operation.
Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews engineering work within a discipline on medium‑size projects or assignments supporting a global business unit.
Interfaces with discipline engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.
Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
Mentors engineers, scientists, designers, and drafters, providing training for professional development.
Promotes a work environment fostering openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8‑10 years of relevant experience, or 12‑14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge
Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for project deliverables.
Knowledge of P&ID development and hydraulic calculations.
Understanding of technical and cost issues related to design feature selection.
Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes, standards, and design criteria pertinent to the discipline.
Previous experience as a process engineer on a large‑scale project.
Hands‑on experience in an operating process plant.
Experience with Aconex and Bechtel engineering practices preferred.
Three years of process simulation using UniSim, preferably on LNG plants.
Five years of experience as a Process Engineer, preferably working on Honeywell Liquefaction Technology.
Experience working with and developing project schedules desirable.
Primary Skills
Knowledge & experience of acid gas removal units and condensate stabilization.
Knowledge of requirements for construction and startup of compressors, process pumps, and fans.
Knowledge of testing, commissioning, startup, operation, and turnover practices.
Knowledge of process and electrical isolation for safe work tasks.
Knowledge & experience in PTW, STARRT, JHA, LOTO procedures.
Leadership and supervisory skills for testing, startup, and operations activity.
Computer skills: MS Excel, MS Word, SetRoute, Teamworks, Aconex.
Experience using Bechtel SWPPs and STCPs desirable.
Communication Skills
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively interface with others.
Professional demeanor in handling people and issues.
