Who you are: As an Event Captain you are an hourly supervisor who delivers thorough and thoughtful hospitality and service in a variety of environments. You must have great communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a knowledgeable passion for food and beverage service, and off-premises event logistics. The ideal candidate exudes a high level of professionalism and hospitality expertise at all times.
What you’ll do:
Consistently support a culture of Enlightened Hospitality
Take ownership of all or assigned portion of the event, which may include delivery, set up, execution, and/ or breakdown of all catering elements, demonstrating an appropriate sense of urgency and teamwork at all times
Assign scheduled staff to Server, Bartender, Coat Check and/or Sanitation Assistant roles, supervise sign in and out, and manage breaks according to NYS wage and hour laws
Lead proper steps of service and consistently communicate them to the team with efficiency and grace, while maintaining a sense of urgency throughout service
Ensure constant communication with Event Chefs, other Captains, staff members, management, and the kitchen during service, through proper channels
Inform staff members about all menus (components, ingredients, preparation, allergens, substitutions) and educate staff members about the beverage program
Hold the team accountable for high standards of cleanliness and proper appearance throughout all areas of event venues
Enforce venue guidelines, Department of Health (DOH) standards, and USE health and safety protocols
Thoughtfully review all event paperwork in advance, and communicate concerns or suggestions
Supervise and report accurate receiving, usage, and return of all beverage, liquor, and equipment via inventory sheets
Ensure that wines, beer, spirits, and cocktails are properly handled, prepped, and chilled with ample time for service, without over-opening
Coach staff members and holds them accountable for both 49% skills and 51% attitude and behavior
Complete and submit post-event reports within 24 hours, including appropriate detail, to strengthen the team and improve future events
What we need from you:
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in catered events
On-demand availability
Some supervisory experience required
TIPS Certification (preferred)
NYC Food Handler’s Certificate (preferred)
