Overview Position: B Operator

Primary Location: Richmond, CA

Schedule: 12 hr rotating (day shift 7am-7pm; night shift 7pm-7am)

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

Compensation: $40.62/hr, non-exempt (fully qualified hourly rate, after training, $50.40/hr)

About This Role and You Chemical Operators at our Richmond, California Sulfuric Acid Plant require the mechanical ability to safely perform general plant operator duties. Work includes tank truck and railcar vessel opening, loading and unloading, operation of pumps, piping, valves and general plant upkeep and maintenance. They also assist the Acid and Shift Utility Operators or other plant personnel as needed. This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and also lifting (within OSHA guidelines) while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including full face respirators when required. This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal, and rotating shifts.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Relevant experience in an industrial plant environment, performing similar duties is preferred.

Must be mechanically inclined

Must be able to work scheduled 12-hour days/nights with intermittent 14 - 16 hour days for emergency operations/repairs.

Ability to use computer effectively, Microsoft programs, maintenance management system, e-mail, etc.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, diagrams or schematics.

Medical Requirement: Chemtrade is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the public. All employees are required to complete and pass their annually held medical assessments, including but not limited to the Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) and the ability to wear a respirator as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Perform typical operations requirements such as truck loading and unloading, railcar loading and unloading, connecting/disconnecting hoses, operating valves, troubleshooting equipment/operational problems and operating plant equipment as needed. Cleaning, sweeping, tool room and warehouse inventory, trash removal, digging, weed spraying, shoveling, fire watch and confined space hole attendance/entrant, other duties assigned by Supervisor.

Follow all plant safety guidelines such as Confined Space, High Work, Management of Change, Hot Work Operating Procedures.

Operate mobile equipment such as Backhoe, Trackmobile, Forklifts, and other mobile equipment.

Replace nuts and bolts in pipe flanges ranging in size from 1" to 48" diameter flanges.

Demonstrate physical capability to perform tasks in high temperatures while wearing PPE (acid resistant suit, rubber boots, gloves, face shield) and respirators.

Maintain and document PPE condition.
