The
Metadata & Discovery Librarian
supports student success and lifelong learning by ensuring library resources are accurately described, easily discoverable, and consistently accessible. This position creates and enhances metadata, manages discovery services, and maintains library systems that enable seamless access to both physical and digital collections.
Essential Job Functions
METADATA CREATION & CATALOGING (35%) – Improve existing records, maintain accurate metadata, perform original and copy cataloging, ensure compliance with national standards.
LIBRARY SYSTEMS AND DISCOVERY SERVICES (25%) – Administer Alma and Primo, optimize discovery layer, maintain library software, troubleshoot issues, collaborate with IT.
ACCESS SERVICES (20%) – Deliver circulation support, provide research assistance, develop online learning objects.
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT (15%) – Manage print collection, support evaluation, train staff.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (5%) – Serve on committees, participate in professional development, promote library resources, assist with reporting.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
Minimum one year of experience in cataloging, metadata, library systems, or related technical services work.
Additional two years of experience in cataloging, metadata, library systems, technical support, administration, access services, information literacy instruction, or research assistance.
Knowledge of national cataloging and metadata standards.
Knowledge of a cloud-based library services platform.
Knowledge of HTML and CSS is valued.
Knowledge of web accessibility and ADA compliance standards is valued.
