Overview Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance of power plant equipment and their associated auxiliary components.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, test, inspect, and repair equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, motors, valves, condensers, heat exchangers, and vessels.

Troubleshoot stationary and rotating equipment, making repairs as needed in accordance with best practices.

Operate machine shop equipment such as drill presses, lathes, and boring mills.

Repair or replace defective parts.

Adjust clearances and tolerances on equipment using blueprints, patterns, or design drawings.

Use micrometers and other precision devices.

Design and build special tools and apparatus to facilitate work.

Fit bearings on rotating equipment.

Check equipment operation by observing oil pressures, levels, and sounds; gather routine vibration data and perform basic analysis.

Perform gas and/or arc welding, oxygen‑acetylene cutting, and brazing.

Perform plumbing and pipe‑fitting tasks.

Remove and install non‑asbestos insulation on boilers, heaters, tanks, turbines, lines, valves, etc.

Develop proficiency with SAP (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for all job‑related areas.

Use blueprints, diagrams, sketches, instructions, and specifications in daily duties.

Set up rigging for installing and removing equipment.

Climb stairways, ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and aerial devices.

Identify and order proper materials for job completion.

Document work performed for equipment histories.

Recognize safety hazards and follow safety guidelines.

Apply environmental rules and regulations in all work situations.

Review and/or develop equipment spare parts lists and PM procedures.

Assist in skill enhancement for other personnel.

Communicate effectively with all plant personnel.

Provide direction and/or supervise outside resources as necessary.

Arrange own transportation to work location.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Three (3) years of maintenance mechanic experience in an industrial setting or military service.

Preferred Qualifications

Five (5) years of maintenance mechanic experience in a power plant environment.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic math and geometry skills.

Effective written and verbal communication.

Ability to interpret and act on written and verbal job instructions, reports, technical manuals, and data.

Calculations for measurements used in repair and maintenance of power plant equipment.

Work from ladders, catwalks, man‑lifts, and other supports up to 150 feet.

Work in tight or confined spaces.

Use half and full face respirators and other protective devices.

Strong knowledge of rotating equipment and industrial maintenance activities and procedures.

Use hand tools of all types and sizes.

Operate company vehicles and mobile equipment (cranes, forklifts, man‑lifts, etc.).

Lift, carry, and position heavy items, including chain falls, slugging wrenches, and large equipment in awkward positions.

Knowledge of handling and disposal of waste materials generated by maintenance activities.

Valid driver’s license.

Use of a personal computer and associated software.

Tag Out/Lock Out equipment.

Physical Requirements

Climb steel structures and use aerial devices, lighters, catwalks, and supports up to 150 feet.

Work with hand tools (up to 10 pounds) above and below head and extend from body.

Lift and pull approximately 50 lbs. in standing, bending, and squatting positions.

Perform work in various positions: lying on back, kneeling, crawling, twisting, squatting, and reaching overhead.

Discern colors.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment and/or outdoor work environment.

Work in and around rotating equipment, high‑voltage electric equipment, high‑noise areas, and elevations up to 150 feet.

Work in all temperatures and climate conditions, including extremes.

Work in confined spaces, some requiring respirator protection.

Respond to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week, with irregular shifts.

Work with various materials and chemicals (asbestos, silica, fiberglass, ammonia, hydrazine, lead, chlorine, PVC, acetone, PCBs, mercury, oil, grease, solvents).

Wear personal protective safety equipment as required.

Work may require cross‑training and travel to other facilities.

Salary Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and experience and consistent with the job location’s market pay rate.
