Job Description Boiler Operator must possess a current Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Second Class Fireman's License.
Job Summary The Billerica, MA Manufacturing Facility operates 5-7 days per week. Boiler Operators work any day of the week, including weekends. Shift hours vary from 8-10 or 12-16 hours per day with rotating and/or staggered shifts. Boiler Operators are expected to be willing to rotate and to work any shift and may be required to work overtime. This facility is a union shop with an active collective bargaining agreement with the United Steel Workers.
Essential Functions
Assist in the start-up and shutdown of the boilers and auxiliary equipment.
Test boiler watery chemistry and adjust doses to maintain proper limits.
Make hourly boiler room rounds to ensure the safe and efficient operation of boilers and equipment.
Lubricate machinery and equipment as assigned.
Keep the production supervisor informed of all operational and safety issues.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Work in support of other departments as needed.
Observe and follow all safety rules and regulations, including Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work, and chemical safety.
Utilize steam plant related tools and equipment and all computer related systems.
Utilize Personal Protective Equipment including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, chemical splash aprons, and Tyvek suits.
Maintain all related boiler room equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance on facility equipment and production equipment as needed.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, GED, or combination of education and experience.
Current Massachusetts Second Class Fireman’s License.
Ability to understand and execute written and oral instructions and relay instructions to follow-up shifts.
Capability to safely lift and carry up to fifty pounds and to bend, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs and ladders and safely move materials and/or equipment.
Skills & Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Strong communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic.
Good judgment to take independent action to carry out primary job functions.
Possession of a Massachusetts Grade 2 Industrial Wastewater Treatment License (preferred).
