Traveling Construction Materials Technician II

Join our Traveling Construction Materials Technician team, where you can embark on new opportunities, develop professionally, and contribute to thrilling projects nationwide. This position involves 100% travel throughout our “Southeast” division including Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and coastal Georgia. You will travel 100% of the time to work on multiple high‑profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more in many geographical areas.
General Responsibilities
Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representative, contractor’s representative, and others regarding site requirements, testing needs, and results.
Transport material samples with identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing.
Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
Adhere to strict safety standards.
Essential Roles And Responsibilities
Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures.
Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the PM.
Assists higher level technicians on complex tasks.
Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration.
Drives a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre‑task planning prior to executing work. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Required Certification
ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
Concrete Strength Testing Technician
Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
Preferred Certification
Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in one or more of the following categories: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.
NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical in one or more of the following categories: Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist.
ICC certification in one or more of the following categories: Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in more than one of the following areas: Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
Other national, regional, state, and local Materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
This position has been categorized as a “Remote Only” position. “Remote Only” employees do not have a designated workspace at an office, and typically work from home or another location.
The national standard salary range for this position is $19.50‑$27.50. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
