Position Overview
St. Martin's Episcopal School in Metairie is seeking a part‑time Technical Theater faculty member for the 2025‑2026 academic school year. This part‑time (20 hours weekly), salaried, non‑exempt position reports to the Head of Upper School and will begin in August 2025. The employee is responsible for the management of the fine arts facility and, as part of the Performing Arts Department, will cooperatively perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. The Technical Theater employee interfaces with students, parents and various segments of the school community.
Responsibilities
Oversight of lighting equipment
Maintain inventory of lighting equipment. Design lighting for productions and special events. Hang and focus lighting as needed. Run lighting for shows and events.
Oversight of sound equipment
Maintain inventory of sound equipment. Design sound for productions and special events. Run sound for shows and events. Train interested students on sound equipment.
Oversight of set design equipment
Maintain inventory of theater equipment. Supervise/create set construction and design. Supervise strikes and work crews. Weekly walk‑through of the facility.
Assist with production events
Work all shows, special days, and holiday events (StM Day, Senior Chapel, Grandfriends, LS Production, etc.). Manage and work all rental events. Handle AV needs in the theater.
General upkeep of the facility
Organize and maintain capital equipment. Necessary cleaning and safety equipment. Weekly walk‑through. Maintain inventory. Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines. Serve as technical director for assemblies, programs, and special events, including assisting students. Effective use of technological resources as demonstrated through routine application of both base‑level technical skills and job‑specific technical competencies. The Appendix contains a detailed list. Adhere to all established business procedures as outlined in the Expense Guidelines published on the intranet.
Qualifications
College background and/or 3‑5 years of experience in the technical aspects of the theater, including set construction and design, lighting, sound, and show production. Superior ability to read and write the English language sufficiently for completion of various written paperwork, including, but not limited to: filing, record keeping, categorizing, drafting of correspondence, reports, etc. Ability to use hand tools and power tools properly. Knowledge of the school's mission, purpose, and goals, and the role of the Performing Arts Facilities Manager in achieving the same. Ability to grasp, lift, and/or carry or otherwise move objects with a weight up to 30‑50 lbs.
