Responsibilities

Serves as the Innovation Manager at the Office of Materials and Research (OMR). Manages innovation initiatives for the department, leads the SCDOT Innovation Council, and prepares for the annual SCDOT Innovation Challenge & Showcase. Works with agency leadership, the FHWA, and AASHTO to identify opportunities for innovation across the department. Tracks innovation within the department. Acts as the department's representative or contact for innovation related committees such as the AASHTO Innovation Community of Practice, the AASHTO Innovation Initiative (All), and Pooled Fund Study- No Boundaries Transportation Maintenance Innovations.

Manages the department's New Products Program to include correspondence with suppliers, consulting with Department engineers, participating in AASHTO UP3, maintaining the internal database and files, and scheduling and running meetings of the SCDOT New Products Committee.

Assists the Research Engineer with development, oversight, and implementation of the SPR Research Program and the In-house Research Program. Conducts complex research studies included in the SPR Research program and In-house program as needed.

Serves as the Department's representative for FHWA's Everyday Counts Initiative Program and State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC). Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Physical Demands The physical demands for the essential functions involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
